There are many different supplements that can be used during weight lifting activities and time periods within the activities that boost or elevate workouts, muscle endurance, and size. The two main supplements that people use are based off protein and creatine. I will show the differences in each supplement below
Creatine
Creatine is an amino acid that the body uses to help build muscles. Creatine helps increase the amount of ATP in the muscle for short bursts to get maximum results. There has been a recent burst in the study of creatine in the early 1990s due to the heave use during the 1992 Olympics. Creatine can be found in Fish and Meat naturally. Creatine can be taken in powder, pill, and even liquid form. Creatine is usually taken before a workout and helps increase the mass in the muscles after you recover. The most stable of these 3 forms is considered pill form, and the least stable is liquid due to the incapability to isolate the creatine monohydrate. There have not been sufficient studies that show side effects to creatine, but minor ones include liver problems, however this has not been fully confirmed. The reason why creatine is such a mysterious substance is because it has not been used long enough to be able to tell if there are serious long term side effects to it.

Protein
Proteins are found in every part of our body and are constantly used by the body. Proteins are made up by amino acids. Protein helps the body to recover and to build muscle. It is key that protein gets into the muscles so that they can become larger and build quicker. As stated before, if a person weighs 155 lbs, then he or she should eat about 155 grams of protein a day in order to build on this muscle. Protein is usually found in meat products such as chicken, tuna, fish, etc. Seafood is an excellent source of protein, with minimal fat in it. Protein is very popular for weight lifters in the form of powder. Many weight lifters drink a protein shake after their workout to help them increase the size of their muscles after an intense workout. Excessive protein can lead to problems in the kidney, and dehydration, so make sure you have plenty of water when taking protein. |
