On November 7th, I conducted a short interview with an aspiring college football player from Ardrey Kell, Tim Mckyer. He is a sophomore at Ardrey Kell and he plans to play college football in the future.
Me: When did you first start weightlifting?
Tim: I first started lifting in 8th grade. My dad, who was a former NFL player, taught me how to lift and showed me the basics, and i sort of just picked up after that
Me: How big of a factor do genetics play in weight lifting?
Tim: Genetics play a huge factor in my weight lifting. Obviously I have great genetics because my dad was in the NFL so i am naturally strong and I get more veins then most other people.
Me: How do you manage to maintain your weight lifting during the season?
Tim: It's very hard for me to lift and play football games during the season. Sometimes you have to be realistic and realize that your body can only do so much. Sometimes I just do not have the energy to lift so I keep my nutrition at the highest level so I do not lose any muscles
Me: When do you incorporate cardio exercises into your program?
Tim: I usually do my cardio after my lifting so I can push my body to the limit and so that it doesn't hinder my lifting because lifting is the key to not getting any injuries and to make sure that i am as solid as possible.
Me: What is the one lift you believe helps you become a better football player?
Tim: There is no one lift that can help you become better unfortunately. You got to do all different types of lifts and in different ways and intensities to really see improvement in your game, or else their really is no point to it.
